Les Traversées – 2022

The abbey has warmed in the sun, our teams are ready to welcome you, we can hear the soothing sound of steps in our brand new gardens and finally, hours of musical wealth offered by exceptional talent. This is what you can expect from the Summer 2022 Les Traversées events. The musicians invited to this year’s edition will be drawing new maps with no boundaries and no border guards, where old music, jazz and traditional music exchange the best of their history and their knowledge.

From 16H00
To 17H30

Monks' refectory

Catherine Jacquet, violin
Isabelle Veyrier, cello
Pascal Contet, accordion

Everyone has their inner sanctum, their secret garden. Two musicians, a violinist and a cello player, driven by Pascal Contet’s accordion, will attempt to open secret gardens cultivated by female composers. These stories will span nine centuries, from the medieval garden of Hildegarde the nun, to the contemporary garden of  Edith Canat de Chizy. On the way, musicians will slip into the gardens of Grand Siècle Versailles, Mozart’s Vienna, Clara Schuman’s romantic garden and the gardens of a Tatar avant-gardiste. An encounter with powerful women…

Before the concert, at 2.30pm, there will be a meeting on the subject of gender equality in culture and especially in the world of musical compositon. (free for concert ticket holders)

From 18H00
To 19H30

Lay Brothers' Dormitory

Cie Rassegna
Bruno Allary, artistic direction – vocals – guitars / L. Atipik, turntables/ Nolwenn Le Guern, viola da gamba –
bass guitar / Clémence Niclas, vocals – recorders / Carina Salvado, vocals – percussion / Jean-Michel Vivès,
artistic collaboration – spatial installation

The Rassegna Company, used to journeying in time around the Mediterranean, is offering here an audacious confrontation between 17th Century music and the sounds of today. Melodies from the greatest Italian madrigalists, tunesmiths of the French court and Purcell the divine, will be transformed into a concert in three acts: Love, Madness and Death. As performers, we will have baroque instruments – electrified, voices from the south and a DJ scratching on his turntables, revealing a a brand new beauty in this ancient music.

Bring your own food to our picnic or just book one of our picnic baskets

Picnic baskets are prepared by Cuisinette, a Bourges caterer who works mostly with local products and, on every Les Traversées Saturday, offers a Berry Bowl: a mixed salad with cereals, vegetables, legumes and other local and/or organic produce, influenced by international tastes.

Canticum Novum – Emmanuel Bardon, conductor
With the exceptional participation of traditional Japanese musicians

Shiruku is the Japanese word for silk. It is also the common thread of the Canticum Novum Ensemble who have taken the road followed by Marco Polo and Jesuit fathers to the edges of the known world. It is a road marked out with music, cantigas in Galician-Portuguese, Sefarad chants, monasterial hymns, popular Italian songs, byzantin chants, maronite chants from the Holy Land and, in the final stage, Japan. With the koto, the shamisen and the shakuhachi flute, three exceptional artists will extend the imaginary journey.

The ensemble is under contract with the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the Loire in Rhône-Alpes Département and the City of Saint-Étienne. It enjoys the support of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Région. The ensemble receives ad hoc support from the ADAMI, the FCM and the SPEDIDAM.
